TRAINER

About Dan Kaase
My name is Dan Kaase, owner and lead trainer at West Texas Dog Trainer. With an extensive background in training law enforcement, companion, and hunting dogs, I am passionate about nurturing the lifelong bond between dogs and their owners. My training philosophy emphasizes developing well-mannered, reliable canine companions while empowering owners with the knowledge and skills to be compassionate, informed caretakers. Unlike large-scale franchises offering one-size-fits-all solutions, I tailor every training regimen to the unique needs, learning style, and temperament of each dog. As the sole trainer working with your dog, I provide personalized attention and ensure you have direct, immediate access to me throughout the process. By choosing me, you’re entrusting your dog to a professional with years of expertise and a commitment to achieving the best outcomes for you and your companion.
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN!
My passion for dog training began with Lady, our first German Shepherd, who epitomized loyalty and protection. Growing up in rural central Texas, my bond with dogs was cemented when Lady heroically defended my siblings and me from a rattlesnake that entered our playground area. Her unwavering courage left an indelible mark on me, shaping my lifelong love for dogs. Throughout my youth, I successfully trained family and hunting dogs, fostering a lasting appreciation for well-trained, obedient companions.

Canine Training Experience
With a lifetime of experience in private dog ownership / training and over 20 years of professional expertise in canine training and handling, I dedicated the latter part of my 30-year law enforcement career to working with dogs for law enforcement and fire detection agencies at the state, local, and federal levels. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of collaborating with and learning from some of the most accomplished professional canine handlers and canine trainers in both government and private sectors. My work included partnerships with organizations and individuals associated with the Department of Justice Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the U.S. Military, the United States Secret Service (USSS), the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Blackwater, and numerous other federal, state, and local law enforcement and fire detection agencies, both domestically and internationally.
As an adjunct canine trainer for the ATF, I contributed to the development and training of canines specializing in explosives and explosives component detection, as well as advanced obedience. I organized and led large-scale, multi-agency training programs, focusing on areas such as odor recognition testing, mass casualty simulation events, and advanced canine medical training for military, law enforcement, and fire agencies.
I continued to refine and hone my expertise in advanced dog obedience and canine behavioral modification through an extensive mentorship under Mr. James Hamm, the Lone Star Dog Trainer, currently recognized as one of the top 10 most respected dog trainers in the United States. I hold certifications in the Advanced Skills Trainer Obedience Course, E-Touch Course, and Train the Trainer course from the Martin Deeley International School for Dog Trainers, as well as through the ATF Adjunct Trainer Course. I also serve as an active member of the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP), where I remain committed to staying at the forefront of canine training, education, and innovation.
I am proud to be endorsed by the DFW (Dallas/Fort Worth) Labrador Retriever Rescue Club as a canine evaluator and trainer. In this role, I have assisted in assessing and training rescue dogs and their adoptive families to address past issues and overcome behavioral challenges. This training empowers families to build a harmonious and fulfilling life with their new rescue companions.
